YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. WE HAVE ANSWERS.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers to common questions about our services, processes, and what you can expect when working with Abbotts' Construction Services.
MARINE CONSTRUCTION QUESTIONS:
DO YOU INSTALL SEAWALLS?
Absolutely! We can install a new seawall, replace an existing seawall, or replace just a damaged seawall cap when the existing wall panels are still in good condition.
DO YOU REPAIR DOCKS & BOAT LIFTS?
Yes! Whether you need a brand-new dock, a rebuild of an existing dock, or repairs to your boat lift, our team can help. As long as the lift's main structure is in good condition, repairs are often a great option.
DO YOU WORK ON COMMERCIAL MARINAS?
Yes! Abbotts' Construction works on both residential and commercial marine projects, including marinas. Our team has the experience and equipment to handle a wide range of waterfront construction and repair needs.
HOW LONG DOES A SEAWALL LAST?
A properly built and maintained seawall can last 30 to 50 years or more, depending on the materials used, environmental conditions, and level of maintenance. Factors such as wave action, soil conditions, water quality, and storm exposure can all affect a seawall's lifespan. Regular inspections and timely repairs can help extend the life of your seawall and protect your waterfront property for years to come.
CAN YOU REPLACE JUST A COUPLE PILINGS?
If only a few pilings are damaged or deteriorated, we can often replace just those individual pilings rather than rebuilding the entire structure. We'll inspect the dock, seawall, or lift to determine the condition of the remaining pilings and recommend the most cost-effective solution.
HOW DO YOU BRING MATERIALS TO MY SITE?
We bring materials to your site using the method that best fits your project and property access. Depending on the location, materials may be delivered by truck, trailer, barge, or work boat. Before construction begins, our team evaluates site conditions and access points to ensure materials and equipment can be delivered safely and efficiently.
SITE PREPERATION QUESTIONS:
DO YOU CLEAR LOTS?
Yes! Abbott's Construction provides lot clearing services for residential and commercial properties. Whether you're preparing for new construction, improving access to your property, or clearing overgrown vegetation, our team has the equipment and experience to get your site ready for the next phase of your project.
DO YOU BUILD HOUSE PADS?
We do! We build house pads for new residential construction projects. Proper site preparation is critical, and our team can clear, grade, and compact the site to create a stable foundation for your future home. We'll ensure your house pad is built to the required elevations and specifications for your project.
WHAT KIND OF SITE PREP DO YOU DO?
Our site preparation services include land clearing, grading, excavation, house pads, access roads, culvert installation, hauling fill material, and site leveling. Whether you're preparing for a new home, commercial building, or other construction project, we can transform raw land into a safe, stable, and buildable site.
WHAT IS SITE PREP?
Site preparation is the process of getting a property ready for construction. It typically includes clearing vegetation and debris, grading and leveling the land, excavating as needed, installing access roads or culverts, and preparing a stable building pad. Proper site preparation helps ensure your project starts on a solid foundation and can prevent costly issues later in the construction process.
CAN YOU INSTALL A CULVERT?
Culvert installation is one of the many site preparation services we provide. Whether you need a culvert for a new driveway, improved drainage, or property access, our team can properly install it to help manage water flow and protect your property from erosion and washouts.
DO YOU DIG PONDS?
Yes! It is what one of the many earthwork services we offer. We can excavate new ponds, enlarge existing ones, and help shape the surrounding area as part of your overall site development plan.
SEPTIC SERVICES QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS A SEPTIC INSPECTION?
A septic inspection is a 5 step test. During the inspection, our technician will open the tank, check and measure the liquid levels, perform a flow test by adding water to the system, and inspect the tank's structure and components. The tank may also be pumped as part of the inspection to allow for a complete assessment of its condition.
MY SEPTIC SYSTEM IS BACKING UP. DO I NEED MY TANK PUMPED?
Not necessarily. A septic backup can be caused by a full septic tank, but it may also be the result of a plumbing clog or excessive groundwater from heavy rainfall.
If your tank has not been pumped within the last 3–5 years, pumping may be needed. However, if our inspection determines that the issue is not related to your septic tank, you will only be charged a service fee rather than the full pumping fee.
ARE THERE ANY KIND OF SYSTEMS YOUR COMPANY DOESN'T SERVICE?
We don't service ATU systems.
WHAT KIND OF TANKS DO YOU INSTALL?
The septic tanks that we most frequently work with is poly plastic.
DO YOU WORK WITH GREASE TRAPS?
Yes, while we do not pump grease traps, we do install them.
WHAT SHOULD I AVOID PUTTING IN MY SEPTIC SYSTEM?
Avoid flushing wipes, grease, feminine products, chemicals, and non-biodegradable items, as these can clog the system and cause damage over time.
